Porsche’s Best 911 Turbo?
With the recent release of the 997 GT2 The 997 turbo almost seems to have been overlooked. Being the flagship 911 model I thought taking a closer look at this amazing piece of art would be worth while. When you first read the specs on 997 turbo they are simply outstanding. With a 3.6 liter flat 6 cylinder engine pumping out a whopping 480hp and 460 lb.-ft. of torque there is more then enough power to get you from where you are to where you intent to be. Lets not forget the optional Sport Chrono Turbo package that cranks up the torque to 505 lb.-ft. If you prefer the Tiptronic S version you’ll be roaring from 0-60 in about 3.4 seconds. Or perhaps you prefer manual transmision which will still put you around 3.7 seconds. If you have enough road to actually utilize the 997 you’ll top out at comfortable 193 mph (310 km/h). That’s when time slows down, everything becomes quite around you and your reminded why you spent $129,000. Worth every penny if you ask me.
The Actively controlled all-wheel drive will absolutely keep you heading in the right direction when times get slick. The Porsche Traction Management is another wonderful piece of technology that’s always there as a back drop. Beautiful 19″ forged two tone wheels wrapped with 235/35 ZR 19 fronts and 305/30 ZR 19 rears will surely bring a smile to your face. Tucked gently inside the 19″ wheels are 6-piston monobloc aluminum-fixed calipers on the front and 4-piston monobloc aluminum-fixed calipers on the rear. The braking power has been exceptionally increased over the 997 turbos predecessor. If your using the 997 turbo for more than a grocery getter you can always opt for the yellow Porsche ceramic composite brakes which offer even more stopping power. The Porsche 911 turbo will always have a special place in the Porsche family.
