Porsche Drops The Top
Imaging driving down a highway that lines the edge of the deep blue ocean. As you enjoy every minute of the curvy highway with your top down in your brand new Porsche 911 turbo Cabriolet. The warm breeze flows through your hair as you curl your toes and push down on the accelerator. You feel free, alive, exhilarated and totally present in the moment. You can feel the warmth of the sun against your face while gently smelling the salty ocean breeze. You just realized why you made the decision to purchase such a beautiful Porsche convertible. The Porsche 997 turbo Cabriolet does an excellent job at what it was designed to do, that is creating emotion through stirring the soul of any Porsche enthusiast.
Lets take a closer look at what this cabriolet is all about. Since as we all know, she’s more than just a pretty face. Like the 911 Turbo Coupe, the Cabriolet is powered by a 3.6-liter six-cylinder Boxster engine with twin turbochargers and Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG). The powerplant generates 480 bhp and 460 lb-ft of torque at 1950 rpm. With the optional Sport Chrono Turbo Package, which includes an overboost function, up to 500 lb-ft is available under acceleration. The manual transmission version can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. With the Tiptronic S transmission this time falls to 3.5 seconds. Both versions can reach speeds of up to 193 mph. When I look at the figures I keep having to remind myself this is not a coupe!
With the top down the 911 Turbo only weighs 150 lbs more than the Coupe, the difference accounted for by the reinforcement of the convertible body and automatic extendable rollover protection behind the rear seats. The light, three-layer soft-top, which can be completely automatically opened or closed in 20 seconds, also contributes to a low center of gravity. Probably my favorite of the entire 997 series. If I do decide to upgrade, this would be the car. Good write-up.

Out of the 997 series I’m a loyal fan of the turbo coupe. Although I have not had a chance to see/drive a GT2 yet. Congrats in advance if you make the upgarde!
