Skys The Limit: 911 Targa 4S

porsche-targa-4s-2.jpgThe Porsche 911 Targa 4S is definitely a unique design that separates itself from the class of 911’s. Targa’s are the only 911 with a hatch access style.  Imagine having a panoramic view of your entire surroundings without the hassle of the wind blowing about in your face or even worse having your wife’s hair turn into Madusa! I suppose the Targa is an alternative to someone who dislikes the downsides to a convertible. Although the entire roof is made of glass, one may argue that it’s just an oversized sunroof. Either way one thing is for sure, this car seriously hauls glass!  One of the most interesting attributes of this 911 is that the roof is a specially formulated glass that absorbs nearly all ultraviolet radiation yet remains transparent. By the way, Porsche added some astonishingly beautiful esthetics simply by adding to the roofline a tastefully enhanced stylish trim element in anodised and polished aluminium.

porsche-targa-4s.jpgYes, the glass roof can be heavy, but the Targa 4S has sufficient power when needed. With a standard flat 6 3.6 litre engine producing 355 hp and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. The Targa 4S has a top speed of 179 mph and hauls 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. Great performance from a car that has an entire roof made of glass. Running 19″ Carrera S light alloy wheels wrapped with 235/35 ZR on the front and  305/30 ZR on the rear. The performance is matched by the sight and sound of the carbon-fiber air filter housing and the sports exhaust system with integral sports tailpipes. All are designed for maximum throughput and therefore maximum performance.

porsche-targa-4s-1.jpgPerhaps nowhere is the new 911’s pure Porsche lineage more evident than the left-hand placement of the ignition key.  In a bit of a hurry?  Just like in the days of the “Le Mans start”, when drivers would sprint to their cars and start the engine with one hand while shifting into gear with the other,  now you to can now be race ready.
